Further Enhancing the Capability of Our People
Overview
Committed, highly skilled people are the backbone of ComSuper. During 2007-08, a number of initiatives and strategies were launched to assist our staff in developing their skills and knowledge to deliver high quality services to our customers and to strengthen our attraction and retention of high calibre staff.
These initiatives and strategies included:
- negotiation of a new Collective Agreement that will ensure ComSuper offers a competitive and outcome-focused set of employment conditions to current and prospective employees
- enhancing the capabilities and knowledge of our staff through the delivery of targeted in-house and tailored external training to address identified areas of need throughout the business, such as customer service training
- strengthening our focus on the health and wellbeing of our staff through a range of occupational health and safety services, including an annual health and wellbeing programme of events for staff
- continuing to use a range of recruitment strategies to engage staff with particular skills
- introducing a number of innovations in ComSuper's internal communications to improve the flow of information between different areas of the business and to improve the management of workloads and workflow throughout the organisation
- successfully upgrading our corporate recordkeeping system to further develop our people's ability to share and manage information across our business.
Building a strong work culture continues to be our focus. An all staff survey will be conducted in August 2008 to build on the valuable information gained through the 2007 'Culture Print' exercise, which involved interviews with around 90 staff members. The all staff survey will provide further information on staff views about the organisation's culture.
In addition to the work we do and how we interact with each other, an integral part of our culture lies in our efforts to act environmentally responsibly and to reduce our carbon footprint. To this end, throughout 2007-08 our waste management and recycling strategies were progressed, refer to Appendix K for details.
