The Government has announced an independent review of military superannuation arrangements.
The aim of this review is to assess the suitability of the existing arrangements in light of the significant recent changes in the wider superannuation environment and the changing demographics of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). We have been advised that the accrued superannuation benefits of serving and former members of the ADF will not be affected by this review.
The Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence, who has responsibility for Military Superannuation, has commissioned the review. The review will be conducted by an independent Review Team with support from civilian and military personnel in the Department of Defence.
Consultations with key stakeholders will finish on 30 March 2007. The Review Team is required to present its final report directly to the Government in July 2007. Should the Review Team make change recommendations and if those were accepted by Government, there would be a lengthy legislation change and implementation process. We are expecting to be involved in that process.
