Schemes Administered by ComSuper

The following superannuation schemes are administered by ComSuper:

The 1922 Scheme. Contributors under the Superannuation Act 1922, were compulsorily transferred to the CSS scheme on 1 July 1976. However, the 1922 Act still provides for the payment of pensions that were in force at 1 July 1976, deferred benefit entitlements, and any reversionary pensions that became payable.

The Commonwealth Superannuation Scheme (CSS)

The Public Sector Superannuation Scheme (PSS)

The superannuation schemes established by the Defence Force Retirement Benefits Act 1948 (DFRB) and the Defence Forces Retirement and Death Benefits Act 1973 (DFRDB) are now closed to new members.

The Military Superannuation and Benefits Scheme (MSBS)

The Papua New Guinea Superannuation Scheme

ComSuper's activities for each scheme administered involve:

  • the collection and recording of member contributions;
  • the collection and recording of employer contributions;
  • the determination and payment of benefits;
  • the administration of entry and medical provisions;
  • the adherence to internal and external review requirements;
  • the provision of information and/or counseling for members;
  • the provision of advice on the proper interpretation of schemes' legislation;
  • the provision of administrative and secretariat support services to the Boards of Trustees and the Authority; and
  • the promotion of superannuation as an important element of the employment conditions for Commonwealth, ACT and NT government employees and members of the Defence Force.
